Why are two of the columns of the upper arcade of the Palazzo Ducale (the side facing the Piazzetta di San Marco) a different colour? Not only are the columns a different colour, they are also made of costly Verona marble rather than the much cheaper Istrian stone. It is thought that the columns mark the spot where executions were once announced. Comments are closed.
