Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg take a midnight dip in the Trevi Fountain in Fellini's film La Dolce Vita
Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg in the Trevi Fountain

The scene in which Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg take a midnight dip in the Trevi Fountain has become the most famous moment in Federico Fellini's iconic film, La Dolce Vita (1960).

The scene was shot in the month of March and while the Swedish actress plunged without hesitation into the cold water of the fountain, her Roman co-star was not so fearless. Mastroianni was no doubt relieved when Fellini allowed him to wear a pair of waders for some of the shots!
